Introduction to Osada Ryu with Barkas and Addie Monday 10th August, 18.00–22.00 Osada Ryu is a style of shibari that has been influenced by three different paths. The Akechi Denki/Kanna style, the Yukimura style, and the style of Osada Eikichi. The result is a multi-faceted school. One side is the teaching system, dedicated to people exploring the world of ropes with the help of practiced techniques and patterns. The other side is more of a school of thought or a way of thinking about rope-play. In recent years, Barkas has developed a certain approach within the framework of Osada Ryu. This approach, which has been called "Ranboo" by Osada Steve, can be described by some key terms: Ma-ai, which is the proper distance at the proper time; Kankyuu, which is the proper variation of speed, intensity and position and last but not least something we may call proper violence. Taking these terms and what they stand for to heart, it leads to a mindset or framework within which one is able to broaden the spectrum of rope-play. Ranboo is an overwhelming and superficially brutal way of doing rope bondage. But deep inside it at the same time a loving and empathic way. Based Osada Ryu-techniques, Ranboo makes use of the elements of surprise, motion and variation of speed within a well directed brutality. There are only four teachers with instructor-status within Osada Ryu. Barkas is one of them. Since a number of years, he runs the Shibari Dojo in Vienna.
